Richard Hunt

Richard Hunt (1935-2023) is an American sculptor and printmaker known for his large-scale metal sculptures that explore themes of motion, energy, and the human form. Inspired by natural and industrial forms, Hunt's abstract works often feature dynamic, curing shapes that convey a sense of  movement and powerful expression. Hunt began his artistic career in 1950 studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He emerged as a prominent figure in the Chicago art scene, developing a distinctive sculptural style that combines modernist abstraction with references to African and African American artistic traditions. Over the course of his prolific career, Hunt has created numerous public sculptures and commissions, where his works are featured in prestigious collections and museums around the world. In addition to his sculptural practice, Hunt is also known for his printmaking, which often incorporated similar themes and formal elements as his three-dimensional works. His prints, such as his series of lithographs and etchings, showcase his mastery of various printmaking techniques and his ability to translate his sculptural vision into the two-dimensional medium.
