Like any museum, the care and preservation of the works on display are of utmost importance. Our visitors play a crucial role in that effort.

COVID-19 guidelines

Wearing a mask, Use of hand sanitizer and social distancing is strongly recommended during your visit at the museum.

Look But Don't Touch

The works on display are for viewing! It is very important that our visitors do not touch or handle any of the objects unless otherwise noted.

Photography

Hammonds House Museum welcomes visitors to take non-flash photography and short smartphone videos for personal and non-commercial use only. No long-form videos, tripods, or selfie sticks are allowed without advance written permission. The use of drones in the vicinity or on the Museum property is strictly prohibited. If you post pictures on social media, please tag us @HammondsHouseMuseum and #HammondsHouseMuseum

Food and Drink

Food and drink are not allowed in the gallery (unless a special event occuring is serving food/beverage) , We do not have a café, but there are numerous restaurants and fast-food spots in the vicinity.

Cell Phones

As a courtesy to museum-goers, we request that visitors do not make lengthy cell phone calls from inside the galleries. Calls can be made in the Green Room area or outside the museum.

Group Tours & Field trips 

Guided tours are offered to groups of 8 or more by appointment only on Wednesday - Friday, 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Cultural Experience Project (CEP) tours are offered Monday - Friday (10:30am - 4:30pm). Guided tours give an overview of the home's colorful history, describe the impressive permanent art collection and provide an in-depth walk through the current exhibition. Hands on activities are also available. Getting Here

From the East (I-20 West)
I-20 West to Exit 55 A- West End & Joseph E. Lowry Blvd. Exit (Old Ashby Street)
Turn Left at Lowery, go (2) two traffic lights to Abernathy Blvd and turn right. Continue on Abernathy Blvd (2) two lights to Lawton Street. Turn right on to Lawton, go two (2) lights to Lucille Street and turn right. The Parking lot will be on your right in the middle of the block.

From the West (I-20 East or I-75/85)
I-20 East to Exit 55A- West End & Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. Exit. Turn right at Lowery, go (1) one traffic light to Abernathy Blvd and turn right. Continue (2) lights to Lawton Street and turn right. Go (2) two lights to Lucille and turn right. The parking lot will be on your right in the middle of the block. Follow sign to front entrance.

Entrance for the physically challenged
After turning onto Peeples Street off of Ralph David Abernathy, make the first left onto Oak Street. Immediately behind the first House will be a paved alley, turn right and continue to the fence. There will be a parking space, special stairs and a mechanical lift. Please call 404-612-0481 in advance. A staff member will have to open the rear entrance and assist you with the lift. 

MARTA Bus Information
From the West End MARTA Station, transfer to the #71 Cascade Bus. The bus will make a stop at the corner of Peeples Street and Ralph David Abernathy Blvd (4 Minutes)- Walk North (2) blocks.

From West Lake Station, take the #67 Westview Bus to Peeples Street & Oak Street
