Hammonds House Honors 2019 Nomination Form
On Thursday, September 12, 2019 Hammonds House Museum will present the first annual Hammonds House Honors. Hammonds House Honors is a recognition of excellence in Black visual art. In the inaugural year we remember iconoclast photographer Roy DeCarva on the 100th Anniversary of his birth and honor six individuals who elevate black visual art through their talent, genius, creative expression, passion and commitment to artistic excellence.
Artists, curators, arts administrators, organizations, and scholars whose careers have made a substantial impact on black visual art may be nominated.
Nominees must be actively engaged in the field
Nominees must reside in the Southern United States.
Candidates must be nominated by someone other than themselves.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Emerging Artist Award
Artistic Excellence Award
Excellence in Curatorial Practice Award
Spriggs-Fuller Award for Arts Leadership
O.T. Hammonds Award for Philanthropy in the Arts.
An eight-person nominating committee comprised of Atlanta-based curators, academics and visual arts professionals submit nominations via an online process.
Artists are contacted and informed that they have been nominated and are asked to provide support documentation (work samples, artist statements, bios, etc.)
A selection panel convenes to review the nominations and support materials and submits their votes.
Submitted ballots are tallied by Hammonds House Museum staff to ensure the identity of the nominees and winners remain secret until the evening of the Honors event.
