2010 PROGRAM YEAR
Hammonds House Museum offers a year-round calendar of exhibitions, talks, demonstrations, children's educational programming, concerts, and other unique events that stimulate the senses and challenge the intellect. Time spent at Hammonds House Museum can be a quiet break from the hectic pace of everyday life, or an exciting venture to explore something new and unfamiliar.

EDUCATION AND YOUTH
Hammonds House Museum promotes the visual arts as an effective bridge to academic learning and personal development. Materials are developed based on established educational standards in order to support the school CRCT curriculum.

Tours for Children / Ongoing
Young people learn about the history of Hammonds House Museum, its architecture, decorative art and permanent collection, and tour the current exhibition. Docents provide specialized information appropriate for the age group, and interactive learning materials are provided. Premium tour packages include hands-on art sessions and a visit to The Wren's Nest museum.

Printmaking Spring Break Workshop / April 5-9
Children in grades 6 - 12 will participate in a five-day, hands-on, art enrichment experience conducted by professionals from the Atlanta Printmaker's Studio. Workshop participants will review prints from the Museum's permanent collection, learn various printmaking techniques, visit the Atlanta Printmaker's Studio, and produce their own prints.

09-Camp-Web.jpgThe Art Block Summer Camp / July 26 - August 6
Children in The Art Block two-week summer camp receive daily instruction from professional artists in visual arts, dance, theater, and literary arts. Participants will interpret art work from the Museum to create a culminating performance using the skills they learn in the various disciplines. This project is a collaboration of Fly-By Theatre, Hammonds House Museum, The Wrens Nest, and The West End Performing Arts Center.

Teacher Credit Workshops / August
These extremely popular courses are open to private, public, and home school educators. The courses use art work from the Museum's permanent collection as the foundation for learning how to construct a meaningful course curriculum across grade levels and subject disciplines. Teachers are charged with developing lesson plans and curriculums for use in their classrooms. Atlanta Public School teachers can earn Professional Learning Units for successfully completing the course. Course offerings will be posted on our website.

NBAF Summer Institute / July 12 - 16
In partnership with the National Black Arts Festival, Hammonds House Museum introduces participants (primarily public school educators) to artists of varied artistic disciplines who are featured in the Festival. Each day begins at breakfast, where participants engage in educational exchanges of information and dialogue with artists. The Institute includes tickets to performances, gallery tours, and product give-a-ways.

Think with Your Senses/Feel with Your Mind / APS Collaboration
This is a project that teaches high school students how to use the arts to be mentors for special needs and elementary school students. The teens give tours to their younger "mentees" and collaborate with them on making site-specific sculpture. The sculpture that was created last year is installed in the Museum's garden area.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

Hammonds House Museum conducts ongoing lectures, symposia and activities throughout the year. The objective is to engage diverse populations in dialogue with each other as they expand their knowledge of the culture of the African Diaspora and realize the importance of making intergenerational and intercultural connections.

Artist Residency Program / February 15-19
Funded in part by the Visual Artists Network (VAN) of the National Performance Network, Tunde Odunlade, will conduct a week long class demonstrating and teaching adult students the art of batik.

Annual Art Auction Fundraiser / April 25
This event includes both a silent auction of juried works and a verbal auction of works from invited artists, and is held at Mason Murer Fine Arts. A Collector's Workshop will be held on Saturday, April 24, the first in a series aimed at providing information and assistance to both new and experienced collectors.

Garden Concerts / May 8th and July 17
What better way to introduce music enthusiasts to great visual art than to present two terrific concerts in our beautiful garden area! Attendees will enjoy jazz and other music of the African Diaspora amid the Museum's beautifully landscaped grounds. The May 8 concert will be held in conjunction with West Fest and features Jazzmatics, a dynamic duo that has been described as "organic jazz, with a taste of funk, soul, and rock, then set on fire by two koolkatz!" Picnic baskets welcome.

WE Tour / May 15
The West End "WE Tour" is a collaboration among the community's various visual arts organizations that showcases some of the area's finest cultural venues. Hammonds House Museum and The Wren's Nest will offer free tours and activities, and The B-Complex and The Metropolitan will have open artist studios. A highlight of the tour will be the Atlanta Printmaker's Studio "Steamroller" event.
